Please Pardon The Interruption.
Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 04:11PM I started today out on the offense. I didn't want to relive the last week of tantrums if at all possible. So, we had simple plans. Wake-up. Eat breakfast. Indulge in some Mickey Mouse Club (yes, we did. A. watches TV from time to time). Then we took a stroller-walk to the dry cleaner's where A. was endlessly entertained by the little girl who stays there with her mama. Then, we took a walk-walk. Next: puzzle-playing, block stacking, and shape sorting, followed by a lunch and, strangely, Vicks Vapor Rub applied to her feet to quell her nap-disrupting, pesky cough (THIS WORKS!) and a rare dose of Motrin for her aching, pesky teeth. Followed by three books. Followed by nap. Hooray!!! Temper tantrum averted!!!! Then . . .
. . . followed by nap, part deux? Yeah, it's kind of weird and great. I think mother really does know best. I can tell she needs more afternoon sleep and she's clearly open to the idea, too. The last few days, A. has woken up - I mean really woken up, talking, pointing, etc. - only an hour and a half or so into her usually long nap. But, to my own surprise, I've coaxed her into returning to sleep. And today was no exception. I held her for a 1/2 hour or so (I'm never opposed to that), then placed her in her crib, awake, and even took a snooze in her rocking chair while I curiously (and sleepily) waited to see if she would indeed drift off. And she was out - again. Tantrum-free. Peacefully. And at this point - 4:30 in the afternoon - we're so close to M. coming home from work that even if a tantrum rears its ugly head, I've got it covered (that, and I've already set her up for post-nap fingerpainting. Remember: offense). To the powers that be (and/or my ability to not crumble today): Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
(The pictures are from after the final nap. A. was a happy gal, phew. And, yes, those are rain boots and a diaper on her bunny.)
