'Tis The Season . . . Of Busy, Busy, Busy!
Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 03:11PM Whoa. Where is the time going? It seems like yesterday that I last posted. But, really, it's been two weeks! I fell off my blogging-run just after my mom visited. Dear, dear, dearest mom was here for an entire week, keeping me company, (mostly) loving on her granddaughter, and lending her hands to oh-so many tasks and projects. Thank you, Mom!
Everyday, we tried to do something different, something fun. Like, trying new restaurants (e.g., Guapo's in Shirlington has a MEXICAN LUNCH BUFFET. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven!), cooking a different meal every night (I must, must, must share with you the New Orleans Corn Chowder we tested - delicious and super easy!), parks . . .
But it wasn't until Mom's last full day here that we got out and walked around Old Town. And what a lovely walk we enjoyed!
Painting the basement was by far the biggest project M. took on during my mom's stay (without my mom to run interference with A., this job would've been more difficult than necessary). Mom and I managed the prep work (buying the supplies, setting up the scene), but M. graciously did all the painting. The basement had been an old, dingy, dirty beige. And it's dinginess was emphasized by the old, worn-out stairway carpeting (likely soiled during a winter and spring of prospective home buyers who trotted through the house that became ours). I could barely stand to look at it. I always refused to switch on the light over stairs, risking my pregnant self as I ambled down the stairs to a lamp. Well, that issue's been solved, too. New stairway carpeting went in last Friday. Before (ewwwww) and after . . .
Also, I think I've entered my third trimester with baby D-2. This week marks the end of 27 weeks. And all is well. Baby D-2 sounds healthy. At my last midwife appointment, the heart rate was in the 130's (possibly indicative of a boy; A.'s rate was always quite high). We scheduled the lovely glucose test for 28 weeks and, since I'm an O- blood type (universal donor!), I must undergo a rhogam injection next week, Hypnobabies Home-Study Course Materials have been ordered, and we meet our doula for two prenatal visits come January and February. Let the fun begin!
Baby D-2 is a healthy mover, but nothing like A. was. She was seriously non-stop. And I feel great . There isn't a thing that I can complain about (save for the midwife's recent instruction that I wear compression stockings for the rest of my pregnancy. No comment.). Sleep is good. Energy is great. And, so far, I've avoided coming down with a 12-week long cold (like last time around). I suspect things will get interesting and the discomforts will pick up in the coming weeks (e.g., restless leg syndrome, some sleeplessness). But until then, knock on wood!
And we're very excited about Thanksgiving! It's taken a little work to get A. on board (she's tried skipping the two Thanksgiving books I bought her in favor of The Night Before Christmas), but yesterday's turkey art and some serious chanting of "gobble, gobble!" went a long way (okay, but not as far as the wiggly eyes that we glued to our homemade turkeys!).
Happy, happy and blessed Thanksgiving to you and yours. We hope you have a wonderful holiday and holiday weekend. And we hope not to get too caught up in this holiday season and the end of '10 and that we beat this non-blogging jag. But time is flying . . . and there's so little of it! And so much more to do! Meanwhile, eat, enjoy, and be merry!

Happy Thanksgiving to your cute family from ours! I felt joy gushing out my nesting pores as I marveled at your before and after basement pictures. Way to go!!!! I can't wait to hear what you think about Hypnobirthing! I had all intentions of checking it out and never got around to it. Where does the time go? Okay, I may have one or two posts left before baby arrives over here. Induction is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 29th. Thank heavens we are keeping this birth in November. Can't wait to share the good news! Love to you and yours.
