"Thomas?!  Percy?!"

After scoring some great parking (hint:  drive to the Mall just before 10AM, when the no-parking is lifted, parallel park, and wait for 10AM), withstanding the cold, and snapping some photos of A., we made it to our destination:  the National Botanical Gardens, just in time to enjoy their holiday train displays and gorgeous collection of amaryllis flowers and poinsettias.  We couldn't post all of our pictures (click here to see them), but here are a few favorites.

A., for her part, was positively STAR-STRUCK to discover that the train displays included Thomas the Tank Engine characters Thomas and her favorite, Percy (in this first picture below, she's noticing the train room for the first time).  She was so star-struck, in fact, that she seemed to clam up.  While she gazed at her train-idols, I enjoyed some of the other displays.

We also enjoyed the miniature Washington, D.C. buildings including, but not limited to, the Washington Monument, the Supreme Court . . .

Mostly, we enjoyed spending the morning together.

We'll definitely return (like just about every other attraction in D.C., this one is free, too).  Especially on a cold day.  Entering this humid, warm building after being outdoors during the coldest morning of the season thus far and taking the beautiful sites in as a family was truly a Monday-morning treat.

We think that A is really cute and we really think that these are good pictures. S: The one where A looks like she is laughing is one of my favorites. H: I liked all of the pictures that I saw. They're so cool. They look so awesome! I wish you would make more pictures for me to see. I really want to see more. And how is TaTa doing? I want to say hi to her. And how's M? I want to see you soon!
