Book Lists.

We are totally in love with books around here.  And I was sad to return a heap of them to our library yesterday.  We had a really great batch and my renewals ran out. Even after returning the books, A. was chanting the titles to some of our recent checked-out favorites:  Llama, Llama, Mad at Mama, A Good Day, and, my favorite, If the Moon Could Talk.  And, unfortunately, the library was closed, so we couldn't replace our beloved 9-week collection. (Yes, we even have a special bag for our library trips.  Do you?)

To make up for the void, last night I hunkered down with my list of books that I generated on the Database for Children's Award-Winning Literature.  Since I didn't have a clue as to how I should go about finding truly good books for A. out of the huge collection of children's books found at any library, store, or online, I had searched for lists of popular, recommended books (we've recently checked out some real duds, plus when we visit the library we check out tens of books, often more than 20!  We need direction!). The website is a really great start and has led to some fantastic titles and even new favorite authors. Here are some of the books I'm hoping to get this week when we make it back to the library.  What are you reading this week?

The list is so long, too, that I decided to look at some of the books' descriptions on Amazon to inform my search a little (e.g., some books are better suited to babies, I've found).  That, in turn, led to putting together these nifty book lists (click here and here) for A. and her baby sister or brother (they're short, as I'm just getting started).  While I hope to find most of our books at the library, it will be nice to purchase some favorites.  Or even give a few as gifts. Thank you to all of you who have shared your favorites so far.  We're adding those to our list, too.  And if you find any others you love, please pass them along to us.  Thank you!
