Vacation Day 5, Part II: Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiird!
Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 09:13PM Well, this is officially our last night in the Outer Banks. Earl, which was originally a category 4 hurricane that was downgraded to a 3 and predicted to shift east, has returned to a category 4 storm moving westward and towards our lovely vacation land. Still no official evacuation, but how on earth could we justify staying?! So, tomorrow we're out and, for now, we're enjoying the sea . . .
. . . especially A., who learned from M. how to chase birds (lovely). And A. loves it! She abandoned her conservative-water and deep-sand fearing behavior for any opportunity to take off after any seagull yelling, "BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRD!"
Once the dear birds took flight, A. clapped her hands and signed for "more! more!" Poor birds! My daughter! What a hunter! Yikes! But what fun she had! That reminds me, all this hurricane talk made me wonder if ever there was a hurricane A., M., and/or C. No C. yet, M. in '01., and a Hurricane A. in the '50s that was so devastating that the name - like Katrina - was retired. Goodness!

If you're wondering if your name has ever been a hurricane or - even worse - if it's a retired hurricane name, click here. Interesting stuff!
