Labor Day Weekend, For Real.
Sunday, September 5, 2010 at 01:18PM The good: the weather this weekend, for our typically humid and stuffy and yucky and hot Alexandria, is GORGEOUS! Hello, open windows! Hello, fresh air! Hello, walking weather! Hello, fresh air that induced A. into almost-four-hour naps (3 is usually par for the course, not bad)! The relatively-speaking bad: M. is laboring away. Indoors. So where might you find M.? Um, in our basement, demolished bathroom . . . some vacation and Labor Day weekend, right?
I wish I had a picture of the bathroom before M. took it apart (this involved cutting out half the drywall because he discovered stinky mold behind yucky wallpaper and the un-sealed floorboard, blah). But it was so, so fiercely ugly (think turquoise green wallpaper, circa. early 90's, with purplish-red diamond shapes and stripes, added to that green and white checkered tiles) that I'm confident our camera would've refused to snap its shutter.
For now, M. has demolished, ditched the old sink and toilet, cleaned, drywalled, primed, and painted (we went w/ Benjamin Moore's Piper Mist/Gray or something like that. It's more blue than the gray I thought it would be, but still nice). Next Up: Tiling (oh, and don't worry, that light fixture is on its way out, too). To be continued . . .
