BOOK!

Have I mentioned that I recently (and finally) discovered the Old Town library, just a short walk from our house?  Honestly, we would have visited sooner, but the heat this summer was so oppressive!  We could barely gather our mail, let alone walk a few blocks.   Anyway, we love, love the library and on our last trip there we came home with 13 books for A. to enjoy (the limit is 50.  How awesome is that?!).

The moment A. entered the library during our last trip, she broke the most important of library rules: silence (but does that actually apply to toddlers?).  Running into the children's section, her eyes falling on everything that lay before her, she yelled, "BOOOOOK!"  And she quickly and independently selected what has become one our favorites (it's so pretty), "Wow!  Said the Owl."  Add to that "Not the Hippopotamus," which I swear I read to her 58 times yesterday.

I'm especially fond of Aliki's "Welcome, Little Baby," which has beautiful illustrations and is perfect for A. while we wait for her new brother or sister to arrive.  There are a few that are duds, not so successful (e.g., "Dragon for Breakfast") , but this is why the library is so great:  we didn't have to waste a single penny on a book A. doesn't like.

We still discover new favorites at home, too.  Right now, A. loves Robert McCloskey's "Blueberries for Sal." She loves pointing out Sal's mama and I love that it's a good, beautifully illustrated long read that A. actually sits through.  We're taking suggestions for more wonderful books.  Please, please comment and suggest your favorites. We appreciate your recommendations!
