34 Weeks (And Starting To Count)!
Friday, January 14, 2011 at 03:14PM Another two weeks has passed since our last midwife appointment, which brings us to today's week-34 appointment. And, we're happy to report that all is well in baby-land. All stuff-important checked out just fine and I even declined a 36-week ultrasound (not a midwife suggestion; asked by a "just-in-case-I-need-one" doctor who the midwife wanted me to meet). As for daily symptoms, they're still relatively mild, if not non-existent. Most importantly, I'm still sleeping comfortably and exercising daily, both of which I firmly believe are keeping some of the usual discomforts at bay. KNOCK. ON. WOOD. (I'm sure I'll be singing a different tune in no time, right?)
And I'm finally preparing for the baby's arrival! First, there's the actual, physical arrival. We had our first prenatal appointment with our doula last night (wow, did all the talk about delivery make all of this seem real!). A new small bureau of drawers just arrived today (storage is a must in our narrow, small, tall home. Plus, this chest of drawers will double as a changing table). We'll transition A. to a (low) twin bed in the coming two weeks, moving the crib to another bedroom. I've ordered some fresh, new unisex clothing (just a few pieces, which will be added to A.'s newborn and 0-3 month collection. Nothing major.). I've modestly filled an Amazon cart with a few things that will be nice to have (e.g., fresh crib sheet, a muslin blanket, cradle bedding for my former cradle, which my mom just gave me, diapers, etc.), but aren't essential (well, except the diapers. I sold all of A.'s cloth diapers. Not going there this time).
Most importantly, our dear A. is preparing for the baby's arrival. She's been dotting on her two babies (she calls them "little boys"), carrying then, kissing them, asking that they be swaddled, and laying them on her former activity mat.
We told her that when the baby arrives, we'll bath him or her in the sink because s/he's too little for the bathtub. And, in no time, Miss A. was bathing her baby in her play-kitchen sink. When asked what she thought the baby would eat (i.e., trying to segway into a breastfeeding conversation), A. - with much resolve - declared "PIZZA!" Hopefully, with activities and conversations like these, the baby won't be a TOTAL shock and surprise, right (or, maybe there will be shock - because there aren't two babies??)?! Fingers crossed!

So exciting!! A is going to make an awesome big sister. :)
I am a firm believer that kids have uncanny intuition. Aidan was spot on when he was saying that there was a little brother inside my belly and he had started early with saying that. In fact, all of his pre-school teachers thought we knew we were having a boy by the way Aidan was talking. They were suprised when I told them that we didn't know whether we'd be having a boy or a girl. In fact, Aidan was telling them that his little brother's name was Jack! So, his teachers were even more surprised when I told them that we didn't have names picked out and Jack was not even on our list of names. LOL!
Perhaps A. knows that she will be a big sister to a little brother. :) Can't wait to find out!
Your belly is SO DARN CUTE!! Keep the pictures coming!
Can't wait to meet your new family member!
