Planes, Trains . . . And No Automobiles.
Sunday, January 2, 2011 at 02:07PM I love that M. has a four-day break from work this holiday weekend. It means we can enjoy equal parts of tasks, errands, resting, and fun (which is really hard to pull off most Saturdays and Sundays, don't you agree?). For the fun part, we took A. on the Metro into Washington, D.C. and the National Mall, destination Air & Space Museum. This was by far - in her memory - her longest train ride and quite exciting (she was too small to remember previous trips and lately we only take the train one stop; today we passed through an exciting four stations). You think A. likes the tunnels at the playground? She digs 'em on the train, too . . .
And, as I said to A. before leaving the house this morning, "this is why we live here!" Our trip took moments, door-to-door, and it lead us to the massive, fun, and free museum filled with space shuttles and airplanes. (And why haven't you visited us yet? Why? We're waiting for you! Just sayin' . . . )
A. positively dug this trip into the city. Not only did she 1) get to wear her favorite, favorite rain coat (see above; she asks to wear this coat EVERY day); and 2) marvel at the giant planes and shuttles, she was stroller-free! She walked her little legs off.
Add to that some chicken nuggets (and grapes from Mama and Papa, of course. I always have this admittedly annoying need to balance some of A.'s food indulgences with a fruit or veggie) . . .
. . . which A. primarily used as a means to eating a gross quantity of sweet-and-sour sauce (until she quickly discovered that it was easier to consume if she just held the sauce container to her face, minus the nuggets, while Mama and Papa looked away for a split second). Ah, happy day. Happy day, indeed.
