36 Weeks (And Occasionally Counting).
Friday, January 28, 2011 at 04:35PM Welcome to 36 weeks of gestation, baby! Today marked the beginning of our weekly midwife appointments. The appointment itself was pretty unremarkable (though all present agreed that if I went into labor during a blizzard or a rush-hour snowstorm like the one we experienced the other night that I would just try to make it to the nearest hospital [which, unfortunately, is not the one where I am registered and expecting to go]). Weight, up. Blood pressure, normal. Baby-hearbeat and position, great.
Seriously, though, I think I doubled in size since two weeks ago. That and my movement has become a little more compromised (but I haven't given up exercise!) and my skin is irritatingly itchy by day's end. Cravings are healthy (I cannot have enough flavored sparkling water mixed with juice [e.g., mandarin orange with orange juice; raspberry with cranberry juice, etc.], SALAD [give me, give me salad!!!!], popcorn [?], and tart frozen yogurt smothered with berries). Clothes are becoming worse than ill-fitting (but as if I want to spend $$ on new stuff, right?). And doing something as simple as reading a book to A. makes me short of breath.
Speaking of my girl A. . .
Though you may think she looks slightly irritated in this picture (I was trying to get her to smile; of course, she did the opposite), she's been the sweetest, kindest, most loving child towards me. No exaggeration. Without prompting, she's frequently saying "pretty Mama!" and "silly Mama!" and "cutie Mama!" along with "love you, Mama!" She loves to talk to the baby-belly ("can I hold you, baby?"), but do not dare expose the belly (this happens accidentally, quite often, given my shrinking shirts). She will quickly cover it back up as if to spare herself the sight of my enormous bump or, maybe, to keep her growing sibling warm? Sweet dear. We're so excited to see how she responds to her little brother or sister. So excited! (By the way, as of today, my bets are that we're absolutely, 100% having a girl. I'd be shocked otherwise. That's how convinced I am.)
