The Great Indoors.
Sunday, February 20, 2011 at 02:13PM (I'm feeling an odd sense of pressure to keep up this blog; else, all will start to wonder if baby D is on his or her way. Darn, not yet!)
Today, we headed into D.C. (woo-woo! another D.C. day!) to visit the National Building Museum. Before heading into the museum, A. bonded with some lions in the National Police Officers' Memorial . . .
I had heard that the museum was a great venue for children (they actually have weekly playgroup times), but I wasn't sure why. Until we entered the building (M. and I had been there before for a formal work function) and saw the blank, empty massive space that laid before us. Now, this was a happy-kid land. Run, kids, run!
Plus, there was a popular (maybe temporary?) Lego exhibit. We skipped it (it was for ticketholders and the line was long and there was plenty to do otherwise; maybe next week!) and, instead, opted for wandering the long, child-friendly cooridors (there are very few exhibits there) and playing with the kids' blocks and construction-friendly toys (while waiting to do this, A. did a bit of coloring).
Really, the National Building Museum is a massive playroom. Besides kids, toys, and legos, I'm not really sure what else is there! We'll return. The space is a perfect escape from cold or hot weather. Or, its a perfect escape for us small-scale city dwellers in desparate search for a large, open, child-runnable space!
