"These Are Days" . . . To Remember? (10,000 Maniacs)

Okay, no more fluffy white clouds.  Let's cut straight to the grey, stormy stuff (though, I really don't mind an overcast day here or there).  We have a newborn and an almost-two-year old in the house.  And you know what that means? HA!  Let's start with Friday night.  E. was snorty and grunty and all sorts of loud that night.  Poor girl is congested.  And that meant while even though she appeared to be sleeping, M. and I did not.  It. Was. Rough.  M. finally threw in the towel and climbed out of bed just before 5AM.

Saturday was a bit of a blur.  Everyone was tired.  Everyone, except A.  Lucky gal clocks about 14 hours of sleep per day.  She was rearing to go.  And we were so dragging and barely meeting her needs (and under these circumstances, I happily give A. permission to express herself in green polkadots and hot-pink pants [let's be honest, though, i often let A. choose her clothes.  Why not?]).

We miraculously made it to Sunday, in tact and with longer fuses.  Feeling a little cabin-feverish after a sluggish Saturday, we decided to walk to Whole Foods Sunday morning for some groceries, breakfast and fresh air, followed by some family snapshots at a nearby tree with our, er, disinterested toddler . . .

And then came Sunday night.  Oh, then came Sunday night.  E., it appears, is overeating.  Or, rather, this mama is overfeeding her (this conclusion was reached after a Monday A.M. call to the pediatrician's office).  E. had an upset belly in dramatic fashion/proportions at 11PM and 3AM, going through two sheets (I thought her growth spurt was lasting awfully long; turns out, it ended, but E. was trying to keep up an unreasonable frequency of feedings, I was obliging her, and her belly was not).  And so, unsure if she was sick or her, um, spit-up, was the product of eating, M. worked from home, making himself available should we need to head off for the doctor's office.  Fortunately, there is no illness and I'm now limiting E.'s meals to every two or three - not one - hours.  Aleady we're seeing a difference, i.e., her feedings are more productive and she only woke up once last night (3AM) for one feeding and she's much less fussy.

But every cloud has a silver lining and we've had some good moments, too.  A. enjoyed helping with E.'s bath last Friday afternoon and Sunday evening.  On Friday, she continued her bath activity by washing a little froggie, signing to it for moments on end.  I've said this before, and I'll say it again:  I'm really loving A.'s burgeoning imagination!

And, thankfully, no babies were harmed in the filming of the first picture above (no, no - A. was carefully lovin' on her sister).

And then A. made the family a batch of brownies, which we have thoroughly enjoyed . . .

Then, today, back on our feet, A. and I got to work on some playdough modeling, making a family of ducks and snowmen while E. chilled.

Now, we're in the home-stretch.  M. will be home in T minus 2 and a half hours (woo-woo!). Dinner is planned and easy (think Trader Joe's frozen sage & cream sauce gnocchi and a spinach salad).  Bath night isn't until tomorrow.  Laundry is not overflowing.  Best of all, the two kiddos are napping.  High-five.
