The 2-Week (or 4) Sleep Honeymoon: Over.
Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 07:15AM So, yes, we all know that babies sleep a lot when they're first born then, suddenly, they wake up. And they sleep less than ever before (less than A., even); they're so busy taking in the world around them. Well, our E. treated us to just about 4 weeks of the newborn slumber. And now she's more awake. And she's letting us know about it . . . with some good ol' fussiness. Word on the street is that peak fussiness occurs at 5 - 6 weeks; our girl is actually still pretty chill, quiet, and sleeps an awful lot (including through the night, though her snorts and gurgles continue to disrupt our slumber) - just louder and more alert than the last sleepy four weeks that I've become accustomed to!
Her timing is always impeccable, like, when A. really wants me to read a book to her. I guess we can't fault her for not understanding that she has a toddler sister who also has her moments. I wish they could coordinate their timing a bit better. Can we schedule fussiness and crabiness so they don't overlap? How is it that A.'s lunch sometimes runs into E.'s lunch? When do children learn patience? Um, if you're me, NEVER.
