Happy SECOND Birthday, A.!
Friday, April 1, 2011 at 07:06AM Oh, A.! Where do I even begin?! Age 2 looks so good on you! You're funny, precocious, full of words and ideas. You love clothes. You love to dance (and, as you say, "shake your body!"). You love to play make-believe. You have a growing, fun, splendid imagination.
(And to mention a few other major "loves" of yours: animals [you never want to let your Mama and baby horses out of your sight and you've amassed a serious collection of play-farm and play-wild animals]; dessert [just this morning, as we greeted you in your bed and exclaimed "HAPPY BIRTHDAY," you responded "have a cupcake?"]; singing [you love to belt out Rock-a-bye Baby and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star]; and, probably, most of all, you love books [we found you this morning *reading* Goodnight Little Bear and most days, if we would, you would have us read 30 books, which is the approximate number of books we check-out from the library during each visit!].)
But most of all, what your Papa and I notice most about you at 2 is your thoughtfulness. You want to share your joy with everyone. You're always - already at 2 - thinking of other people.
When you eat something, you want us to try it ("Papa try it?!"). When you see something that amazes you, you want us to look and experience your same excitement (just yesterday near a construction site, "look at the small digger over there! look at the small digger!" or while watching the fish in Finding Nemo, in absolute awe, "look at that!"). Already, you love to say, "Mama's turn! Papa's turn!" in an effort to share your experiences. In your music classes, you want to be sure everyone is included in the sing-along gretting (the other day, you seemed to insist that the teacher should personally greet Mama K. in her song, even though the name call-outs are reserved for the little children). Every morning, you wake up and ask about and wish to see your new little sister E and you love to share your happiness with her.
There is no doubt you were born this sweet and kind-hearted . . . just look at you in your early months! You have sweetness, happiness, and kindness written all over you!
And there is no doubt in our mind that your kindness, generosity, and tender heart will grow and grow and grow to love and care about more people, causes, and things as you grow beyond this sweet, dear, your-mama-wants-to-keep-you-this-small girl of 2. We love you, Miss A., and we're so honored and blessed and lucky to be so loved by you and to have you in our lives. Happy Birthday!
