"EMMA DILEMMA"!
Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 09:34PM Oh, E.! WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO US? E., a good sleeper since, er, day 3 or so, has turned on us. I mean, I don't think she's a bad sleeper, but she has gone from one wake-up to many. Seriously. WHY? She goes to sleep just fine. She naps beautifully (three naps a day, each after a 1 1/2 or 2 hour wakeful period). So, again: WHY the wake-ups?
We thought it was the pacifier and went cold-turkey with that (remember?). And E. slept like her ol' self for two nights. Then, it was downhill from there. A typical night these days since the middle of last week involves about four wake-ups. And I feed her twice. And M. gets her back to sleep the other two times. Thankfully, she's never awake for long. Just long enough to rouse us every two hours - in the middle of our elusive REM sleep - to coax her back to la-la land.
Again: why, E., why? I am confident this is a phase and we'll soon return to that luxurious one-feeding-a-night ritual with no other wake-ups. And I recently read that there's something called the four-month sleep regression or four-month wakefulness (but if my recollection serves me well, A. never went through this; she's always been a bit of a rock-star sleeper, setting the bar high). Maybe that's what we're going through here, I don't know. But whatever it is, it has to pass. Quickly. Because we want our dreamy nights back. Like, starting with tonight.
