Sisters, Part 3.
Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 03:56PM These two just continue to chum it up with one another. We encourage it, too. Neither M. nor I want A. to feel like E. is untouchable (she really is durable and it's not like we leave the two alone) and we want E. to know that big sister A. adores her and vice versa. Lately, A.'s been saying to E., "that's a good baby!" and "look at E. roll over!!" Oh, and A. likes to *read* to E., too.
Our pediatrician told us very early on to mind how often we say to A., "be gentle!" or "remember, E. is a baby!" Not only does get annoying, but it's counterproductive when done ad nauseum and it never really teaches A. how to interact with her little sister. Instead, we try to show A. how to handle E. and encourage her. Of course, there are moments. Like, for instance, when E. rolled over and couldn't get her arm out from beneath her so A. pulled E. by her leg, which loosened up E.'s arm. Um, it worked. But the leg dragging wasn't all that desirable, ha. In any case, we love to see these two take an interest in one another. And the last thing we want to do is discourage them.
