Oxon Hill Farm.
Sunday, June 26, 2011 at 02:41PM M. found a new farm! And it's super nearby (I always stress this because we only have a certain window of time to get out the door, have fun, and get home before naptime. You understand, right?). Just over the Potomac River from Alexandria and in Maryland. It's Oxon Hill Farm, which is part of the National Parks System and you can actually see the Masonic Temple (the tall, pointy tower over yonder) near our home from Oxon Hill.
Besides the views, the. most. exciting. part of the morning was when A. was invited to milk Minnie the Jersey Cow. Holy cow, that was fun. Mama did it, too.
(Hey, are those two girls related? It certainly appears so!)
A. will also tell you that she fed the ducks and that she didn't see any sheep. But she did see "three goats." And I wonder if she'll recall when she looked at the hogs and exclaimed, "that's mama and A.!" (Great!). A. also visited with some other cows, to whom she exclaimed "hi!" and "goodbye!" Oh, and the cat. We can't forget the barn cat.
E. will tell you that she enjoyed several riding in her stroller, several naps, sucking her thumb, listening to the birds, and watching Minnie.
I especially enjoyed the wide sandy and pebbled path (probably for the wagon rides among other things) that most likely leads down to the river (we didn't chance that long of a walk). And I fancied the picnic area, too, where we enjoyed a quick snack before hitting the road.
Pretty cool to have a nice little working farm so close by. Who knew! (M. came across it when looking at a Google Map of the National Harbor and, low and behold, this little gem appeared.) What's more is it's not crowded at all. There were maybe 15 or so folks there. So, shhhhhh. Don't share news of this farm with just anyone, okay? It's our secret.

That's right near Paul's work and Jules' daycare! They've been before, but not me. Maybe we can plan a trip together? Jules' nap is getting later (12/12:30p), which I think is more inline with what you guys do, making get-togethers easier!
