"See Grandma and Grandpa?"

Silly me, telling my two-year old as we happened upon the GW Parkway, a mere mile from our house, that we were driving to see Grandma and Grandpa T. - a trip that would last at least 8 hours and would be divided between a Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.  And, yes, that meant my dear A. asked incessantly and without understanding the distance between us and them, "see Grandma and Grandpa?" over.  And over.  And over. But it was kinda cute.  As were the following car-ride A. exclamations:  "Look at that sunset, MOM."  And, "that's the biggest hill I've ever seen . . . "

Without incident, and repetitive questions and cute statements abounding, we did make it to Michigan in the early afternoon the following day.  E. was none to pleased to be held by anyone but her mama (she recovered by the following day) and A. was so tired from her decision to stay awake until midnight the night before, that she crashed into a nice, long nap (we fully expected A. - like her sister - to fall asleep during our 6 to midnight car trip, hence the decision to drive the previous evening. Wrong-O.). And while A. napped, we enjoyed what would become one of many afternoons on my parents' shady, comfy patio.

Then we were joined by my dear grandparents, who met little E. for the first time.  Great-Grandma broke the time record for holding our jittery E. (i.e., E. allowed a minute or two to past before the lower lip started to tremble).  And Great-Grandma made A.'s day by getting down and drawing on the cememt with A.  And Great-Grandpa captured some smiles for our nervous gal, too.

This day would begin my almost two-week stay in Michigan and the beginning of our July 4th festivities. M. stayed with us until the 5th, when he returned by air to D.C. with plans to reunite with us the following weekend and drive back to D.C. (thank you, Papa!).
